Huskies Capture Brampton Regional Silver Stick Title
Congratulations to the Erb Transport Novice A Huskies Regional Silver Stick Champions!!  They travelled to Brampton this past weekend to participate in the Central Region Silver Stick Tournament.  They will now attend the International Silver Stick Finals from January 22nd to 24th in St. Clair Shores Michigan.

Go Huskies!!

The boys kicked-off their quest for the stick with a solid 4-1 victory over the Oshawa Minor Generals.  The forward line of Ayden Ziegler, Evan VanZuilen, and Dylan O'Connell got the boys rolling with an early marker.  The New Hamburg boys were consistent throughout as defensemen Owen Swiech, Evan Walmsley, and James Murray kept the Generals chances to a minimum.  The next test for these little Huskies came against Tri-County rivals, Guelph.  This was a tight-checking affair in which Guelph managed to capture a 2-1 lead in the final frame.  But the Huskies battled back and earned a 2-2 tie when the forward line of Brendan Gerber, Rhett Calder, and Brett Bell solved the Guelph netminder in the final few minutes.

On Saturday morning, needing a victory to advance, the New Hamburg boys took on the Bradford Bulldogs.  The Huskies rose to the occasion  and turned in an excellent team effort.  Defencemen Jordan Jacobs and Koen Soulliere helped to limit the Bradford opportunities and, when called upon, goaltender Nolan Freeman was perfect.  It added-up to a 7-0 victory and a berth in the playoff round with another Tri-County rival, Woolwich.  This semi-final battle was dominated territorially by the blue, yellow, and white.  The line of Jordan Abbott, Liam Robertson, and Kayden Livingston tallied all three goals in a winning effort.  At the other end of the ice, Joey Durrer secured a second consecutive shutout for the Huskies who celebrated with the coveted "shutout puck" for the second time on the day.

On Sunday morning, the boys prepared for an encounter with yet another divisional rival, the hosts from Brampton.  These 45s always manage to give the Huskies a tough battle.  This final game was no exception.  Scoring chances were hard to come by at both ends of the ice.  However, the Huskies popped in an early 3rd period goal to gain the advantage.  When Brampton scored a few minutes later, the stage was set for some Husky heroics.  The bench and the Husky fans erupted when the New Hamburg boys swiped one in off the blue paint in the final few minutes of the game.  When that final buzzer sounded, the Huskies jubilantly flung their gloves and sticks on the ice and celebrated with their well-deserved Silver Stick banner.

With this tournament victory, these boys now qualify for the International Silver Stick Finals to be played January 22-24 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.

Congratulations young Huskies, and good luck in the Finals!
