Atom A Huskies Victorious in the U.S.A.

The cheers from the New Hamburg Huskies Atom A players and fans echoed from Hyde Park Ice Pavilion in Niagara Falls, NY this Sunday as the boys were crowned champions in a huge 5-0 victory over the Amherst Knights at the Gene Harrington Shootout Classic!

Tons of hard work and class earned this team an undefeated weekend record, including two shutouts for goalie Jack Cook!

Friday morning The Huskies offence scored 8 goals while their defensive play held the Hatfield Ice Dogs to 4 markers, starting the tournament out on the right foot.  The afternoon game was played at Buffalo Riverworks, an amazing outdoor rink right on the water in downtown Buffalo.  The boys described their "Winter Classic" experience as a match versus the elements, but came out victorious with a score of 2-0.

Saturday morning the boys met the Amherst Knights for the first time in the tournament and despite some unmatched passing plays and combined effort from all players the game ended in a nail biting 1-1 tie.

Bringing home the championship trophy, although a highlight, was only part of what made this an unforgettable weekend for everyone.  The swimming, the hotel hallway fun, the Buffalo Sabres game, an Olive Garden dinner party and their morning workout bonded the boys in true Husky fashion.  One of the boys declared it “the best days of my life” which is no doubt what all 14 players were thinking as they made their way home with trophies in their hands.  It truly was a weekend they will never forget.
