NHHA - Covid-19 Operation Update
Submitted By NHHA on Monday, May 25, 2020
COVID-19 Update   We hope all families are staying safe and healthy.  Consistent with Federal and Provincial Orders, Hockey Canada has directed that all hockey operations shut down until further notice.  This shutdown includes all on-ice and off-ice team activities and administration.

The following are answers to commonly asked questions:

 1.      Will there be any further play related to the 2019-2020 season?  Last season is over.  The OMHA declared teams making it to the finals of the OMHA Playdowns prior to the shutdown of hockey operations as co-champions.  Similarly leagues that had 2 teams progressing to the league finals declared both teams’ co-champions.

Congratulations to the Minor Atom A team for being OMHA Co-champions with Quinte West.  Unfortunately, NHHA had some other teams in the hunt for a championship, but they did not meet the criteria to be declared co-champions.

 2.     When will hockey season start?  What will tryouts look like?  Will there be pre-season tournaments?  Hockey Canada and its Members are diligently working on a multifaceted return-to-hockey plan that will happen when, and only when, provincial and territorial governments and health authorities deem it safe to do so.

At this time there are too many unknowns to try to predict what the season will look like.

3.     How do I get a Permission to Try-out Form to tryout for Kitchener AAA or Guelph AA?  Given the unknowns about when the season will start, and what it will look like when it does start, all administration for the season, including organizing for tryouts is temporarily suspended.  Tryout forms have not been made available from the OMHA to the local associations.

4.     When should I register my players for hockey? For NHHA to be organized to get the most out of the season when it starts, it is essential that the number of players in each age group be known.  The deadline for registration has been extended to July 30, 2020.  Considering the financial strain Covid-19 has placed on many families, NHHA is considering methods to alleviate the hardship.  Stay tuned for more information.

5.     When will the NHHA AGM be held?  An AGM is an administrative function of hockey that has been temporarily postponed.  Details regarding the NHHA AGM will be posted on the website when administration functions are allowed to proceed and we know more detail about the upcoming season.  All members of the current Executive have agreed to continue their roles until an AGM can be held.

As the return-to-hockey plan progresses, it will do so at different speeds, and at different times, across the country, based on direction from health authorities. NHHA is following progress and trying to remain poised to re-start hockey in New Hamburg as soon as we can.

Thank you for your patients, passion and dedication to our game, and we hope to see you around the rink soon.
