UPDATE: NHHA APPROVED FOR AE TEAMS TO PLAY IN SOUTHERN COUNTIES LEAGUE
Submitted By Webmaster on Thursday, August 03, 2017
UPDATE:

The OMHA has approved NHHA's application for the following:

Novice AE and Novice thru Midget A teams to play in the Tri-County League again in the 2017-2018 hockey season.

AE teams Atom thru Midget will play in Southern Counties.  Novice AE is playing in Tri-County as Southern Counties do not offer programming at that level.

The Juvenile team will continue to play in the Beechy League and the Local League teams in the Grand River Local League.

-------------------
The New Hamburg Hockey Association (NHHA) has applied to the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) for the Atom thru Midget Additional Entry (AE) teams to play in the Southern Counties Minor Hockey League.

Under this proposal NHHA’s A Level Representative teams Novice thru Midget will continue to play in the Tri-County league along with the Novice AE team.  Similarly, NHHA’s Juvenile team will continue to play in the Beechy league.

The rational for the application is to seek competition for NHHA’s AE teams that is similar to the competitive level of the teams.  In the recent past the NHHA AE teams have played against the much stronger AE teams in the Tri-County league.  This move is intended to have games that end with closer scores than have been experienced in the past.  This will  assist in player development and retain players in the program.

The Novice AE team is not included in the application as Southern Counties does not offer programming for Novice AE.

NHHA Executive are optimistic that the OMHA will approve the application as both leagues have agreed to the potential move.  It is now with the OMHA to render a decision.  Historically, when NHHA first offered programming for AE hockey, NHHA’s teams played in Southern Counties.  This will be a move back to the roots.

A decision from the OMHA is expected sometime in August.  In the meantime, NHHA Executive is organizing with the leagues as if approval for the move has been granted by the OMHA.
