2018 NHHA Novice and Below Plan (New Hamburg Hockey Association)

Print2018 NHHA Novice and Below Plan

NHHA would like to provide an update on changes to Novice and below programming for next season before the June 30 registration deadline.   Originally it was anticipated that NHHA could continue to run the same program as last season for Novice and below age groups but further clarification from Hockey Canada and OMHA has been received.

2018-2019 NHHA Season Plan

NHHA has formulated the below play to meet the changes for the upcoming 2018-2019 season for Initiation and Novice born players (2010 born and below) that have been directed by Hockey Canada and OMHA.

Novice A (2010)

  • Will continue same as last season playing full-ice games against Tri-County League teams.

Novice AE (2010)

  • At this time it is unclear if NHHA will have a Novice AE team.   Currently only a few 2010 born players have shown interest to tryout.   Due to new OMHA rules, only a limited amount of 2011 born players can play Novice A, AE, or Local League moving forward.  NHHA is still open to having a team and looking to gage interest now and after the June 30 registration deadline. If more players register and show interest in playing Novice AE, NHHA will hold tryouts in September and form a team.

Novice Local League (2010)

  • NHHA can no longer combine 7 and 8 year old players together on the same Novice teams.    NHHA must split 8-year-olds to place full-ice Novice and for 7-year-olds to play half-ice Tyke.

  • With this split, it looks like NHHA cannot run its normal 6 team internal Novice Local League.  Instead, NHHA will form 2 or 3 Novice Local League teams (will confirm after June 30 registration deadline) and look at joining a league to schedule games with other centres.

Tyke (2011)

  • For Tyke age players, it looks like NHHA will form 2 or 3 Tyke teams (will confirm after June 30 registration deadline).  These Tyke teams will play half-ice matches starting after November 1st.  NHHA and coaches will work with other centres to schedule matches accordingly.

Senior Initiation / Pre-Tyke (2012)

  • For 6 year old players, NHHA will form 2 Pre-Tyke/Senior Initiation teams (previously referred to as Pre-Novice in past seasons) and play cross-ice matches starting after December 1st.  NHHA and coaches will work with other centres to schedule matches accordingly.

Initiation (2012, 2013, 2014)

  • For the remaining 4, 5, and 6 year old players, NHHA will form various Initiation teams (previously referred to as Fundamentals or Learn-To-Play in past seasons) based on age and skill levels and play cross-ice matches starting after December 1st.  NHHA and coaches will work with other centres to schedule matches accordingly.

2019-2020 NHHA Season Plan

  • For the 2019-2020 season, NHHA will most likely follow the same above plan for the 2019-2020 season (involving players born in 2011 to 2015.  The only change will be that the Novice A and AE teams will play half-ice games for the first half of the season and then transition into full-ice games the second half of the season the same as Novice Local League Teams.

With these OMHA mandated changes NHHA appreciates parents’ cooperation and understanding with the organization and work that has to be put forward to prepare for next season.  NHHA is always open to more people being able volunteer and help with the implementation from planning to coaching to managing to on-ice-helping.
