Huskies Make Goderich Tournament Finals
The PeeWee AE Huskies made the most of a last-minute invitation to the 63rd Annual Goderich Lions Young Canada Week PeeWee Tournament.  The team rattled off 4 straight wins to land a spot in the finals against the host Goderich Sailors.

The Huskies got off to a quick start in the tournament opener Thursday afternoon  with a 6-0 win over the Saugeen Storm. Evan Denision paced the attack with 5 goals and was awarded the "Crabby Joe's" player of the game for his efforts.  Joel Domm added a single tally with Jackson Holmes and Tyler Kumpf sharing the shutout.  Next up Friday morning were the Ilderton Jets.  Dale Jurica and Emmet Latyn got the Huskies on the board with 1st period goals with Jackson Gerber and Kolton Wagler adding two more in the second.  Alex Smirnow closed out the scoring in the third with a splendid solo dash making the final 5-1 Huskies. Kolton Wagler was Player of the Game for his strong two-way play and goal scoring.  Pool play concluded with a match against the Orangeville Flyers.  Defensemen Bailey Zehr and Tim Geiger scored to open up a 2-0 lead and Nathan Gerber and Evan Denison extended the lead to 4-0 before Orangeville found the net in a 4-1 victory for New Hamburg.  Zehr earned the Crabby Joe's gift certificate in this one with his steady blueline play and opening goal.  It was a tribute to the team's depth that 10 of 11 skaters available to play in the tournament had scored a goal in round-robin play!

Saturday morning saw the Huskies matched up with Ilderton again in a semi-final match.  Ilderton came out ready to play and held a 1-0 lead after two periods of play.  Jackson Holmes stood tall in the net while the skaters tried to solve the Jets goaltender.  The Huskies were able to dig deep as Nathan Gerber tied things up half-way through the third and Evan Denison scored what proved to be the game winner with just over 2 minutes left in regulation to secure a 2-1 win.  This win set up a championship finals match against Goderich.

The Maitland Rec Complex was hopping Saturday night as Goderich was primed for the announcement of the Kraft Hockeyville Top 5 and had a full night of festivities planned following the game.  The home team came out to play, especially its goaltender!  The Huskies carried the play for most of the game and had many, many chances to take the hometown crowd out of the game.  Unfortunately the game was knotted at 0-0 before the flood between the second and third period.  The Huskies continued to apply pressure in the 3rd but it was Goderich that found the scoresheet first.  More Huskies pressure yielded the same reult, more blocked shots and more big saves.  The final 1-0 for the Sailors set off a big celebration in Goderich, with the Huslies knowing they had been part of a quality tournament and an exciting night of hockey.
