The John Bear Bantam AE Huskies were busy tallying up victories this past week as they faced the Arthur Vipers on Tuesday November 1 at home and the Acton Tanners the following day on the road. The Dogs were spoiling for the win at home against the Vipers as they were forced to settle for a tie in their last match-up.  The first frame was a scoreless draw that saw some nice defensive work by Josh Jewitt to keep it that way. The Huskies found another gear in the second and tallied when Filip Telescu fired a pass out into the slot where Marcus Roth was waiting to connect. The Vipers fought back and Tanner Green, who was backstopping the Dogs that night, made three consecutive big saves to keep his team in front. The opposition pressed on in the third frame as the pack found themselves short-handed. They killed the penalty but a bad turnover allowed the visitors to capitalize at the halfway point. Green was able to recover and thwart further Viper efforts as his team returned to the offensive. A tick-tack-toe rush by Roth, Telescu and Nolan Forster came up gold when Forster went high on the goalie to retake the lead. Two minutes later, Jayden Marion got the insurance point on a feed from Danny Martin. His point shot deflected off a Viper player sealing the 3 - 1 win. The Dogs took their confidence with them to Acton on Wednesday to do battle with the Tanners. The first frame was a scoreless draw, mirroring the previous night, but all that would change in the second. Two quick goals set the tone. Robbie Mason was first to tally on a pad rebound from Martin followed by a deflected point shot from Alex Normandeau by Forster. The Dogs were really hitting their stride with some nice offensive grit as exemplified by Matt Schmidt as he banged one off the cross-bar. The few forays that the Tanners mounted into the Husky end were easily handled by Matt Santos who looked good between the pipes for three periods. The Dogs closed out the frame with another marker by Taylor Von Hausen with Marion riding shotgun. The third frame saw the Pack cycling the puck and riddling the Tanner net-minder as they took it to the opposition with a vengeance. The efforts paid off when Jewitt's point shot was deflected in by Roth with only minutes remaining. A questionable tripping call saw the Huskies down a man and as fate would have it, a second minor infraction would give the home team a 2 man advantage in the dying minutes. The Husky penalty killers were outstanding and secured the 4 - 0 shutout win. They hope to continue the success story as they prepare for the up-coming Silver Stick tournament later this month.
