Close game in the battle for 1st place
LL1 took the ice today knowing that a win against LL3 would guarantee them at least a tie for first place in the Novice Local League.  After a sluggish start in the first period, the boys really turned it on and made the event a very exciting game.

LL3 took the lead in the first period, but LL1 tied it up early in the second when Carson dug a puck out of the corner in the offensive zone and skated towards the slot in front of the net and fired a hard shot into the back of the net.

From here the team settled into a tight checking mode as they did their best to keep the high flying goal scorers of LL3 off the board.  Leading the way with some very aggressive checking in the defensive zone was Zack.  All game long he attacked the LL3 forwards as Zack made sure he "owned" the corners and kept the offensive attack to the outside.  For his hard checking and courageous stance at the offensive blue line, Zack earned himself this weeks Hard Hat award.

Part way through the thirds period, the line of Ethan Ryan and Logan found their mojo as they netted two goals on one shift!  With the game tied at 3 and just over a minute to play, an LL3 player grabbed a loose puck at his own blue line started heading up the left wing boards with great speed. Every LL1 player was hustling as hard as they could to catch their opponent, but he maintained the step he had and made a great shot to give his team a 4-3 lead.

After the centre ice face off, LL1 pulled their goalie in favour of 6 attackers, but could not get the scoring chance they needed.  It was a great game and every skater on LL1 was appreciative of the gutsy effort their goalie, Deklan, put in today.  After battling a fever the night before, he made many great saves to keep his team in the game.
Great job Huskies!

Now everyone is looking forward to a team trip to the Toronto Marlies game on Family Day.  See you at the Ricoh Colisseium!
