Overtime in 'A' Finals - what a game!!!!!
The battle for Novice Local league hockey was on display Saturday at the WRC.  Both teams battled hard for the 'A' title, and unfortunately as we all find out in life, their has to be somebody who gets disapointed, this year it was us.

What a game the boys put on though!  Back and forth action kept the parents and coaches excited for the entire game.  The LL4 team came out on fire and scored 2 quick goals to put us down 2-0 in the first 2 minutes of the game.  Some boys were  dejected but the coaches reminded them that this game was far from over and they needed to keep their chins up and keep 'battling' like they have all year.

The comeback started at the end of the 1st period when Kaden took a pass from Riley and went hard to the net.  He stopped short and shot over 2 players heads and lobbed one into the top corner over the goalie!  The momentum had shifted and our LL3 boys were pumped to get the tying goal.

Numerous chances from the forwards of Tye, Sam, and Riley were kicked out by the LL4 goalie but the clock kept ticking.  Cooper put on the show of the day, doing a Sean Avery impression in the crease as he went where he was told to go (but maybe got a little too close to the goalie).  Brody kicked out key saves, and covered the puck whenever it was within reach in hopes of getting the equalizer.

When it seemed like we were running out of time in the 3rd, our scoring champ from the regular season made a rush that we all knew was coming at some point.  Cole grabbed a loose puck at center, 'shake and baked' out 2 defensemen and went streaking on a breakaway.  The only question was, would he shoot top shelf or deke, he faked left, went right and brought the fans to their feet as he stuffed in the tying goal with his patented move.

The top 4 defense kept us in the game of Brayden, Owen, Cohen and Stuart as LL4 couldn't break through to get any more chances.

The clock ticked down to zero in the 3rd and now Overtime was about to begin.  The format of 1 minute at a time and going from 5 players down to 1 was upon us.  The 5 on 5 was even, 4 on 4 had some chances.  3 on 3 was exciting but still no goal.  Then it happened, down to 2 on 2, our forward got tangled up in the corner and the LL4 team broke out on a 2 on 1.  They made no mistake as they ripped the golden goal and skated away with the 'A' championship.

Our boys were sad, and tears were flowing.  The coaches congratulated them on a great season, reminded them that this is just one of many championship games they will play and to remember what it feels like now so you work extra hard the next time you get the chance to win.  The pizza party and slushies afterwards gave the boys some consolation and they were joking and smiling by the time they left.

Great season to all players, parents and Coaches!  We hope everybody had a fun hockey year and has a great summer full of baseball, soccer, trailers and cottages.  See you next season at the rink!
