Essex Early Bird Finalists
The New Hamburg Novice A Huskies travelled to Essex for the annual Early Bird tournament this past weekend. Despite their limited time together and only a couple practices, the Huskies proved to be a formidable foe beating Guelph 4-1 and Kent 9-0 on the first day. Saturday was another great day for the Novice A team as they defeated Erie Shores 3-0 behind a solid effort from goalie Jacob Durrer and the defence crew.
The Huskies needed one more win on Sunday morning to secure a birth in the final and a first-place seed in the tournament. They got it with a very solid game against a determined Ajax team, winning 2-0. This game was an all-out team effort with every forward backchecking hard to retain the shutout. Sunday's final saw New Hamburg face a very solid Compuware team from Detroit, also undefeated in the tournament. Once again the Huskies battled hard and gave everything they had but this time came up a little short losing by a final score of 4-2. Overall the Novice Huskies had a great tournament and showed tremendous heart and determination despite their limited preparation time before the tournament. Essex Early Bird Finalists!
