The Storm was more clouds than wind. The Guelph Storm blew into the New Hamburg’s’ Oakgrove Minor A Rep Atom Huskies den October 11th for their first battle.
Mitchell Hunter parted the clouds with a pass from Aaron
Bell to put the Huskies on the scoreboard first. Both teams showed great end to
end plays with well-tuned breakouts and aggressive defensive corners scrums.
Owen Lowry and Austin Lee-Barker showed maturity and play reading beyond their
years. The Storm was relentless with their drives and managed to catch a lucky
bounce to make it 1-1. Tyler Clement’s determination and grit from Evan Green
and Matt Eddy made sure the Storm didn’t capitalize on a couple of
man-advantage opportunities. Griffin Smith’s swarming of the Storms net, Kyle
Barr’s left side charges, Cody Cowell’s skillful stickhandling and Joey
Gibson’s physical presence kept steady Huskie pressure on. Cody Klaassen’ s
second period shot on net was flipped over and in by Sam Thorne making it 2-1.
Both teams poured it on in the final minutes of the third with the nod for
determination going to Jack Wheeler’s hustle that set-up Mitchell, sealing the
fate of the Storm. Huskies 3, Storm 1. Go Huskies!!!
