Two out of Three
(by team reporter John Barr)
The Minor Atom Rep A players captured two out of three victories.

Oct 15th saw the dog pack travel to Caledon Hawks for a convincing 6-1 victory. The whistle blew to the delight of Cody Cowell, Sam Thorne, Hunter Mitchell, Joey Gibson and twice for Cody Klaassen who nailed the net for six goals. Team play came from assist makers Sam Thorne (2), Klaassen (2), Aaron Bell, Kyle Barr, Owen Lowry (2) and Mitchell. The team, although enjoying the win, played down to their opponent’s level and not up to theirs.

Oct 25th pitted the Dogs against the first placed and undefeated Milton Winterhawks. The Dogs came out charging with Lowry passing to Hunter to light the board in the Huskies favour. End to end action was fast and the Dogs paced themselves well. The Winterhawks kept diving the Huskies end for three goals before the Dogs gathered themselves and hit back. Tyler Clements (Goalie) cleared the puck to Mitchell who knocked the Winterhawk’s nest making it 3-2 in the bottom of the second. The Winterhawks continued their aerial assault adding two more goals before the final horn. Winterhawks 5, Huskies 2.

Oct 27th the Huskies invaded the Brampton Battalion’s garrison. The Battalion began their offensive charge with the first puck drop. The territorial hunting Huskies quickly found the weak link when Mitchell charged an opening going end to end for a top shelf. Austin Lee-Barker and Bell formed an impregnable wall against any offensive charges while Klaassen, Holden Ehgoetz and Cowell clawed any loose pucks in the Battalion’s corners. Mitchell’s back check in Huskies territory enabled a breakout to Bell, who sent a tape to tape pass for Thorne’s rush and goal making it 2-0. Third period play saw the Battalions skating hard but not keeping pace with the hard skating Huskies. Barr set Thorne up again for his second of the game. Lowry and Matt Eddy kept the dogs in the Battalion’s zone by digging in their paws at the blueline for many point setups. Jordan Hopkins had a stellar game and side-poked a loose puck to Evan Green who nailed Jack Wheeler who fed Mitchell for his second goal. Huskies 4, Battalion 1. The upcoming Owen Sound Regional Silver Stick tournament Nov 2-4th sees the Dogs drawing the Battalion for their first game so this was a well-timed victory. Go Huskies!!!
