Huskies Down Hawks
League play versus Caledon Hawks on December 16th saw the Hawks circling the B-W Feed & Seed Minor Atom Rep Huskies with both teams exhibiting many end to end rushes.....

Matt Eddy was solid on defence with numerous great plays and a couple of rushes. Joey Gibson picked a nice stretch pass from Cody Cowell to drive through the neutral zone and Hawks defence for a shot and goal putting the Huskies on the board first. Aaron Bell and Austin Lee-Barker made life easy for Jordan Hopkins by clearing the Huskie zone of multiple attackers. Second period play saw Evan Green with a nice blue line shot on net that was retrieved and top shelfed by Cody Klaassen. Owen Lowry provided good breakout passing to Jack Wheeler setting up Mitchell Hunter for some close calls for the Hawks netminder. The Hawks finally netted a weak shot in the top of the third and rolled to a tie within a minute later with another. The Huskies buckled down playing their game waiting for play opportunities to develop. Hunter read the play and scooped a turnover in the neutral zone to drive the net with a nice wrist shot and goal giving the Dogs the lead. Sam Thorne and Griffin Smith pushed the play forward driving the Hawks zone many times with close calls. Kyle Barr’s back-checking foiled many Hawk’s attacks. The insurance goal was delivered with hustle and corner digging by Barr’s pass to Gibson, who sent a nice mid slot pass for Holden Ehgoetz’ s shot and goal. Game Final Huskies 4, Hawks 2. Exciting news was received this week when Coach Derek Klaassen informed the team that we had been chosen as the wild card entry for the Newmarket International Silver Sticks Tournament January 10 – 13th. This was unexpected news as typically you need to win your Regional Silver Sticks to advance. The team has some hard work ahead of them and they are up to the challenge as they are firing strong on all three lines. Go Huskies!!!
