Huskies Topple Brampton
OMHA playoff action resumed Jan 17th with the Brampton 45’s entering the Huskies den. The New Hamburg BW Feed & Seed Minor Atom A Huskies came out charging with Joey Gibson controlling the opening faceoff shooting immediately into the offensive zone.

Kyle Barr and Holden Ehgoetz rushed right in to set the first shot at the 45’s. Darryl Smith and his coaching staff have been focussing on pass plays and the results are definitely starting to show. Sam Thorne’s drop pass for Austin Lee-Barker’s point shot saw the defenseman put the Dogs on the board first. Great corner digging with a pass from Jack Wheeler onto Mitchell Hunter’s stick saw Hunter release a hot wrist shot for a 2-0 lead to end the first period. Second period play saw the 45’s attempting many rushes into the Huskies zone only to be turned away empty handed by

great angling from Evan Green and Matt Eddy. The scoreboard lit up once again in the Huskies favour when Thorne’s rush committed the 45’s netminder to the left post leaving the far side wide open for a sweetheart pass for Griffin Smith’s tap in. Third period play opened with the Huskies being short-handed but it didn’t stop Hunter from having a perfect behind the net pass to high slot for Wheeler’s top shelf goal. The 45’s power play put them on the board seconds later making it 4-1. Owen Lowry and Aaron Bell held the blue line solidly for the remainder of the period thus further frustrating the 45’s. With the tempo still running strong Barr’s pass to Gibson was carried in and stuffed past the netminder for another. The relentless rushes kept coming at the 45’s netminder with Hunter setting up Cody Klaassen at mid slot from behind the net for Klaassen’ s high stick side goal. Thorne’s shot on net from Cody Cowell’s stretch pass was tapped in by Smith sealing the 45’s fate. Jordan Hopkins kept the Huskies net solid for another convincing victory. Playoff action continues January 24th in Dundas. GO HUSKIES!!!
