Victorious Tie!
If ever a tie could be considered a win, this Saturday would definitely have qualified.
Due to illness, injury and scheduling conflicts the Atom LL3 Lions came into Saturday's game against an always tough St. George team with a severely depleted lineup. As always the Generals brought with them the same energy and aggressiveness that they have for every game.
Instead of folding and using their lack of reinforcements as an excuse to let St. George pour on the goals, New Hamburg showed their parents and supporters the heart and soul of champions! With the goalie standing firm as the last line of defence yet again, the eight skaters in front of him pushed themselves to their limits.
Despite not being able to make a complete line change because of the short bench, whoever was on the ice was always putting out their maximum effort. With only three 'fresh' skaters jumping on with every change, there were always two boys challenging themselves physically and putting their mental toughness on display for everyone to see. If there was any question what the Huskies hockey program is about, nine boys threw the answer down in the middle of the ice that day. They showed the heart, determination, teamwork and friendship that every parent wants to see from their child.
Yes, the final score was 0-0 but nine sets of weary legs, nine thumping hearts, nine pairs of rosy cheeks and nine bright white smiles were evidence of a win bigger than any goal on a score sheet!
