Huskies Continue League Playoffs in Style
(by team reporter Albert Ross)

The Canadian Legion Major Peewee A Huskies took to the ice with gusto when they hosted the Guelph Storm on February 26. The Dogs were looking for another win to add to their play-down total and were determined to come out on top. The Storm had the same idea so the stage was set for a tough physical game.

It didn’t take long for the penalty boxes to fill but the Huskies were giving better than they got. The opener came in the dying seconds of the first frame. Miller rushed up the center and punched it through the 5-hole on a screened shot with Tim Gieger and Josh Beach getting the helpers. It was more rough play in the second that the Dogs used to the utmost. Gieger and Beach lead the charge but the rest of the team was in hot pursuit of the second goal, playing a puck-possession cycling game. The pressure cracked the Storm and with a man in the box for tripping, the Huskies got their chance. A turnover in the forward zone was all Jackson Gerber needed to blast one from the slot to double the Husky tally. Lucas Bast added another seconds later on a blistering point shot over the goalie’s shoulder. Greg Yeoman on a feed from Josh Blier nearly connected which became the catalyst for opposition unraveling. A frustrated Storm bench saw two back-to-back penalties levied against them with their coach removed from further play. The Huskies continued their relentless play in the third with Yeoman bagging the fourth Husky point on a pad rebound from Evan Bender. The finale came halfway through the frame when Blier drilled it in from the slot shortly after a won face-off. Jackson Holmes, who had a pretty easy time in net for most of the contest, made two final saves to seal the 5 – 0 shutout win. It was a tremendous exhibition of team play that the Huskies hope to repeat as they continue in the round-robin play-downs.
