Jacob Ertel did what he does best; he came out Monday Oct 1st, snuck behind the opposition’s defense and scored goals, three of them to be exact. The Re/Max Twin City New Hamburg Minor Peewee A Huskies travelled to Georgetown for their first road game of the season and skated to a 4-1 win. The team, now with a 3-0 record, seems to have found its groove and looks to be a confident group.
On the first of Ertel’s
goals, Griffin Hergott made a long breakaway pass to Ertel who was lurking
behind the Georgetown
defense. Ertel cruised in and shot to score glove side. In the second, Hergott
again found Ertel streaking behind the defense. After receiving a Luke Egers
pass from the Huskie zone, Hergott one touched the puck sending Ertel in on
another breakaway. This time he outsmarted the goalie firing his second goal
blocker side. Asked about his play during the game a very modest Ertel replied,
“Pretty good, but I thought the team played really good. I couldn’t have scored
three goals without team mates passing.” In particular he noted the play of
Hergott. “Hergie found me”, he continued.
The Huskies would extend
their lead to 3-0 in the third period when defenseman Kyle Goodhew sent Aedan
Bell and Cotter Hegan in on a 2 on 1. Hegan had just stepped out of the penalty
box and crashed the net banging in the rebound from Bell’s
shot. Georgetown would cut the lead to 3-1 but Ertel would cap the hat trick
late in the third after Koby Seiling stole the puck at the Gerogetown blue line
and maneuvered around three players for the shot. Ertel would then tuck the
puck in on a wrap around for the trick.
