Minor Peewees Snap Three Game Slump
There was a sense of worry in the Twin City Re/Max Minor Peewee Huskies locker room and also within their fan base at the end of the regular season. They were riding a twenty-three game unbeaten streak when their fortunes took an unpleasant turn as that streak quickly transformed into a three game losing streak as the Huskies lost to Woolwich, Oakville and Burlington by a combined score of 8-1.

It was reminiscent of the start of the season when the Huskies had trouble finding the back of the net in early contests. But, with the start of OMHA playoffs came a new season, a fresh start and all is well again in Huskieland.
The minor Peewees began their quest for an OMHA championship on Sunday January 13 by defeating the visiting Caledon Hawks decisively 5-0 at the Wilmot Recreation Complex in their first of eight round robin games. The Huskies will play home and home games against Georgetown, Dundas, Burlington and Caledon with the winner advancing to the next round of the playdowns.
After Sunday’s game, both head coach Kory Green and right winger Cameron Lowry agreed that this was probably the best game these boys have played all year as everyone was a contributor. “The power play worked well, we were moving the puck,” said Green. “(It’s a) good start to the playoffs. We needed that after the finish we had in the regular season,” he added. “Sure played a lot better than our last few games,” confirmed Lowry. “Coach said we were passing and moving the puck well,” he continued. That was evident on their first power play in the first period when it took Ryan Vaudry only fifteen seconds to score from the point on a screen shot after some crisp passing after the draw was won.
Then, late in the second frame after Caledon was called for a four minute head contact penalty with 3:02 remaining, Griffin Hergott scored to make the score 2-0 assisted by Cotter Hegan. With 18.7 seconds left in the period just as the penalty expired, Kyle Green potted one slamming his shot in from the slot as Koby Seiling earned the assist.
Hergott and Hegan teamed up again early in the third to notch another goal and Jacob Ertel rounded out the scoring unassisted midway through the third. Goaltender Sam Dramnitzke was simply superb as “the keeper of the crimson cage”, holding the Hawks off the score sheet to grab the shut out.
The Huskies next home action is scheduled for next Tuesday night January 22 at 7:30pm versus the Georgetown Raiders.
