Peewee LL#1 Finalist in Mitchell Tournament
For their first game of the tournament the Huskies faced off against Goderich. It was Blake Z. who was on the charge early and put the team out front with a 2-1 lead. Then in the third Trent came through with a pass from behind the net that hit Luke's stick who throttled the puck into the back of the net. Joel E. added a fourth goal late in the third period to give the Huskies a 4-2 victory.

Team_Picture.jpgThe second game was a low scoring event with the goals going to Joel E. and Blake, with Trent picking up his second assist of the tourney. The final score was Huskies two to zero over the Blyth/Brussels team. Goalie Carter S. earned his first shut out of the season.

The third game on Saturday was against South Huron and this was when the Huskies really came alive. This game quickly turned into a fast paced, hard checking game. The Huskies found themselves in the penalty box six times. The goals went to Joel A. who fired two into the back of the rigging, two for Blake and one for Luke. The real star of the game was Carter who stopped many shots on the way to a 5-0 shut out. The defense played by Reed, Michael, Will and Gavin; were relentless as they prevented their opponents from driving to the net on several attempts, never giving the South Huron boys any clear breakaways.

The fourth game (Semi-final) was played on Sunday against Thorold. this also turned into a fast and hard checking game. The first high lite reel goal was by Nat in the second when he wrapped a shot in from behind the net to give the dogs a 2-1 lead. The third goal was set up by Nick as he performed one of his many hard working battles on the boards to bust the puck out from his own end past three defenders and then hitting his linemates with a perfect lead pass that set up the third goal. The final goal was by Brayden G. and this was more than just a shot on an empty net. Brayden picked up a loose puck just outside the Huskies blue line, he then charged for the net, after two failed attempts by the Thorold opponents to knock Brayden off the puck, he was now close to their blue line, where he ripped his slap shot into the net. Final score Huskies 4 Thorold 1.

The fith and final championship game was a rematch against South Huron. Carter played another great game. The defense were kept busy preventing South Huron from reaching the Huskies net. The defense of Michael, Reed, Will and Gavin lead several charges up the ice. The game became physical with both sides taking several penalties. A late game charge lead by Blake who then fed the pass to Luke at the front of the net, put the Huskies within one goal of their opponents at 3:20 in the third. The final score was 3-1 after SH scored an empty net goal.

After playing five great games of hockey the Huskies went home much more a team then they were before the tournament. The coaching staff and parents are all proud of the great effort put out by the players.
