Huskies vs Huskies - Buzzer Beater Ties It Up
by Lori Spoltore
The New Hamburg Huskies PeeWee teams faced off this past weekend and LL#3 was able to squeak out a tie versus LL#2 with 2.8 seconds remaining on the clock.

Charlie Slessor knocked one in with a flurry in front of goaltender Liam Piattelli, and the puck snuck across the line right before the buzzer.  It was a very exciting finish and the LL#3 fans were thrilled with the outcome.  The action began when Gryphon Myers scored for LL#2 on a breakaway drive to the net.  Myers' size and determination are unmatched as he has worked hard to become an offensive threat.  Jack Weiler tied it up for LL#3 in another scrum situation to make the game 1-1.  Myers came out flying again and on a power play, he had another breakaway run at goaltender Matt Krmpotic which cashed a second goal.  LL#2 hung on the rest of the period when Slessor beat the buzzer with the game ending evenly matched 2-2.

In earlier play last week LL#3 won their first game of 2013 versus LL#2 from Woolwich with a score of 5-2.  Devin Melchanko got the Huskies going with the first goal of the game and the crowd was electric.  Mason Wagner had two goals as well, and played an incredibly aggressive game.  In the second, Brandon Jantzi tipped in a rebound from Logan Arnott's great shot on net, and Slessor dunked one in after a cross-ice peach pass from Weiler.  Credit again to the hardworking defensemen on the team: Alex Gruhl, Joseph Heisse and Wagner, with occasional help from Ryan Hillar.  The Huskies have met the turning point of the season and look forward to a strong finish and tough showing in the playoffs.  The LL#3 Huskies are also preparing for a tournament in Shallow Lake on Jan. 19th.  Happy New Year from the Huskies.
