Bantam LL3 B-Pool Finalists in Dresden
With regular season behind them and with play-downs looming the Delivery Guys Husky Bantam LL3 went on the road to Dresden in search of some hardware. The annual Kinsmen Cup Tournament held on February 1 – 3 saw 16 teams competing for the top prize in some thrilling matchups.

The Huskies were scheduled to take on the Port Stanley Sailors Friday night in what became a tough low-scoring game. The lone goal of the contest came in the second period when a Sailor made the most of an end-to-end rush. While the Dogs played well and their goaltending was exceptional, they were forced to accept the 1 – 0 loss and hope for better fortune Saturday morning. The Pack was squaring off against Tilbury and it was evident from the start that these teams were very evenly matched. Liam Saunders was once again doing sterling service in net keeping the game a scoreless deadlock after one. The opposition finally cracked the Husky resolve in the second and potted one on a drive. The answering goal came late in the third when Cam Gingerich won a battle down low and fed Colin Shannon who teed it up at the point. The screened shot deflected off a defender’s skate and found the back of the net to tie the match. The celebration was short as Tilbury rebounded on another hard drive to the net. Coach Gingerich pulled his goalie in a desperate attempt to salvage the game but the scoreboard still registered the 2 – 1 decision at the end of regulation. The defeat relegated the Dogs to the B-pool with their third game set to go early Sunday morning against the Petrolia Oilers. Having been stung twice in spite of playing well, the Huskies got their game faces on for this match. This would be their best game yet, in spite of having to deal with injuries to key players. Kolton Wagler found the net first on a pad rebound from Mike Thrush. Then it was Trevor Brubacher’s turn on another pad rebound with Thrush and Wagler helping. The third point came when Connor Ross fed Brubacher who then scored his second goal from in front. Justin Arnott collected an assist on the play. The reeling Oilers suffered a fourth Husky point when Wagler fed Ross, who stretch-passed to Kale Meyer who then raced in all alone to score. The Dogs didn’t let up in the second and Meyer once again hit the target on a repeat breakaway performance set up by Ross and Wagler. The Oilers tried to fight back but Saunders was sharp. The final Husky point came from Thrush as he scooped up the garbage in front of the net. Arnott and Meyer got the helpers on the 6 – 0 victory that propelled the Dogs into the B-pool final on Sunday afternoon. Their opponent was a known quantity. The Dogs had beaten the Embro Edge twice in regular season play, but the games were both hotly contested. This would be no different. The Huskies drew first blood early when Ross bolted end-to-end to beat the goalie on the backhand. The Huskies owned the first frame but the Edge began testing Saunders in the second. However, Wagler, securing a loose puck, got it back to the point where Colton Hussey promptly delivered the goods to the back of the net. The Dogs looked confident going into the third but Embro showed resilience. They cracked the score sheet at the half as the Husky’s short bench began to tire. They potted another in the dying minutes to force an overtime period. The Pack attempted one last lightening rush early in OT before the Edge bottled up the defense and secured the winning point. It was a tough 3 – 2 loss but the Huskies can be rightly proud of their spirited efforts in the face of injuries and very tough opponents. The Dogs collected the B-pool Finalist prize and will now prepare for play-downs, which will be starting in the coming days.
