New Hamburg Optimist Tournament
Your Novice LL3 Huskies played in the New Hamburg Optimists annual Novice Local League tournament on March 22nd.

Their first game was against a determined Fergus Sharks squad. The boys came out moving their feet and forechecking well. Aidan K scored our first goal of the game at the 5 minute mark of the first period with assists going to Caleb H and Zack K. Fergus fought back and tied the score and the boys knew they were in for a battle. Cohen W scored a beauty goal on a rebound in the second period with Aidan K and Cameron L picking up the assists.

The game went back and forth and Fergus took the lead in the third. With a little over a minute to go in the third Aidan K tied it up after on a great effort from Cohen W to get him the puck. Cohen picked up his second assist of the game on the play.

The boys second game was against the New Hamburg LL4 team that had yet to beat them this year but have been steadily improving as the year has gone on and were increasingly dangerous. Jackson M, with a great effort  on a wrap around, put the LL3 Huskies up in the first period. Assists went to Hayden J and Cohen W and the boys were rolling. A couple penalties slowed the game down and LL4 went on the attack and tied the game up with 18 seconds to go in the first.

The second period was not kind to the boys as LL4 potted 2 goals in 14 seconds and took a commanding 3-1. The boys battled back in the third but just didn't have enough in the tank and ended up falling 4-1. Deklan J had another strong effort in net and a great defensive effort by the entire team made the coaches proud.

The boys are going to rest up now for the consolation final on March 30th. Be sure to arrive early for that game as tickets are going fast!
