Pre-Novice Blue Huskies Capture Norwich Tournament Title
On Saturday, February 22nd the Pre-Novice Blue Huskies took to the ice to participate in the Aaron Jull Memorial “Tyke A” Tournament in Norwich.

Inspired by Canadian Olympic success, this group of young Huskies set out
to capture some hardware of their own.

Our little Huskies opened their day with a 2-0 win against Paris. For
three full periods the boys took the play to the Wolfpack. The line of
Oscar Shonk, Evan Walmsley, and Brett Bell was relentless in the offensive
zone as they kept the pressure on their opponents. Meanwhile the defensive
pairing of Luca Gerardi and Dylan O’Connell was very stingy as they turned
away the few rushes that Paris could muster.

Having secured their spot in the semi-final, the boys set their sights on
Simcoe. The Blackhawks jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Huskies
were unfazed. Behind the forward line of Liam Robertson, Grayson Adair,
and Rhett Calder, New Hamburg rallied in the second half of the game. The
Huskies strung together four unanswered goals while defencemen Evan Walter
and Koen Soulliere helped to deny any more opportunities for Simcoe. This
4-2 win set the New Hamburg boys up for a championship encounter with the
Elmvale Coyotes.

In the final it was the Huskies who would strike first. The line of Evan
Van Zuilen, Anderson Allen, and Ayden Ziegler buzzed around the Elmvale net
in the first period and provided a lead for New Hamburg. Our tired little
Huskies battled for the full thirty minutes as the Coyotes kept coming at
them. However, goaltender Joey Durrer kicked-out save after save and
frustrated the Coyote attack all game long. When the final buzzer sounded
the scoreboard read “New Hamburg 5 Elmvale 1”. Moments later the ice was
littered with Husky gloves and sticks as the boys piled on top of Joey for
a well-deserved team celebration.

Congratulations boys – Aaron Jull Memorial Tournament Champions !!! And
thank you coaches for making it yet another great day to be a Husky.
