Novice A Huskies OMHA champions!
written by Mike Eichler

The Erb Transport Novice A Huskies completed their dream season with 2 victories on the weekend to bring home the OMHA Novice A Title.  Leading the series 1-0, On Saturday in New Hamburg for Game 2, the Barrie Colts changed their strategy and played a very strong defensive game and gave the Huskies the best opposition they have seen this season.  A nice deflection on a point shot gave the Colts the 1-0 lead.

It took the Huskies until 5 minutes left in the game to tie the game and the huge crowd erupted!  A too many men penalty gave the Huskies a 2 man advantage and they fed off the cheers from the fans and scored the winner on an amazing rush, pass and one time goal.

On Sunday, the road trip to Barrie was another close game and the battle raged on for over 2 periods with no goals.  Saves at both ends from these amazing goalies on power plays and breakaways had everyone wondering if this one would end deadlocked.  The Huskies had 3 boys in the penalty box in the 2nd period and the penalty killers did their jobs to keep the game even.  Then Barrie took a pair of penalties in the 3rd and the Huskies took advantage with a shot from the slot that found the back of the net!  The last few minutes seemed to last a lifetime but as the puck was cleared from our end and the clock ticked zeroes the red hats and OMHA championship trophy belonged to New Hamburg!  Congrats to all these little superstars as they played with everything they had and deserved the win.  These boys played 61 straight games without losing and have memories that will last a lifetime.  Thanks to all supporters of the team and those that followed and cheered on from home.
