By Jeff Porchak: The New Hamburg Atom AE Huskies were unbeaten in two must-win OMHA playdown road games over the weekend.
On Saturday, the Huskies went into Hespeler and came out with a 4-3 win. Colin McBride netted two goals for New Hamburg with singles to Braden Pfaff and Jesse Gerber.
Special teams were key for the Huskies, with McBride and Gerber tallying power play markers and Pfaff scoring while on the penalty kill. The Huskies also played strong on the PK in the final stages of the game to repel the Shamrocks.
On Sunday, the Huskies ventured to Elmira and played a solid team effort to down the Woolwich Wildcats 2-0.
Jordan Hopkins stopped all the goals he faced to shutout the Wildcats. Kaleb Mosburger tapped in the game winner off a great effort from Brendan Larocque and Jesse Gerber deposited an empty netter late to solidify the victory.
The Huskies defense and forwards played great hockey in their end to help Hopkins preserve the shutout.
With three wins and two losses in the first round robin series, the sixth and final game against the Shamrocks on Feb. 6 will decide which team advances to the next round
