New Hamburg Minor Peewees off to a 2-1 start
Written by Tim Yantzi
The Express Way Ford Minor Peewee A Huskies started the season with their home opener against the Guelph Gryphons earning a 2-1 win. Even though the Huskies dominated most of the game the scoring didn't come until the third period when Riley Benko opened up New Hamburg scoring with a set up from Reese Yantzi. Benko then earned the second goal for the Huskies with an unassisted shot with 4:33 left in the game. Guelph quickly answered back scoring their only goal of the game due to Josh Durrer's solid performance in net for the Huskies.

The Huskies then travelled to Caledon to face the Hawks. Even though Hew Hamburg outshot their oppenents 26-17 the outcome was different with Caledon taking the game 5-3. Zachary Hart scored in the first period with assists from Cole Wallace and Liam Schweitzer. Noah Walmsley then slipped one past the Hawks goaltender assisted by Nick Black in the second. Owen Turner then tied it up in the third period off the pass from Yantzi but despite New Hamburgs best effort they still came up short with two unanswered goals by the Hawks to take the win. The Huskies then hosted the Hespeler Shamrocks blanking them 6-0. The Shamrocks had no luck that night with the Huskies coming out strong in the first with Nick Bardouniotis and Walmsley scoring one a piece with Wallace grabbing the assists on both. Colin Dwyer potted the only goal of the second with assists coming from Benko and Luke Timmons. The third period saw Logan Kleine scoring the Huskies 4th goal of the game from Dwyer. Benko then scored unassisted for the Huskies 5th. Hart then rounded off New Hamburgs scoring with a chipper from Wallace. With Owen Sound, Halton Hills and Woolwich new to New Hamburgs loop and with Peter Holmes, Steve Glauser and Liam Robertson joining the Huskies squad this year it will prove to be an exciting 2013-2014 season for the dogs.
