Midget LL2 Huskies Compete In Syl Apps Tournament
The Midget Husky LL2s had a busy weekend in Paris trying to secure some end of season hardware in the Syl Apps Tournament. Friday March 21 saw the Dogs facing off against the Aylmer #2 Flames but things did not go well for the Pack at first. Down by two goals, they made up for it in the second, scoring three to take the lead.

Brandon Tracey opened it up on an unassisted dash through traffic followed by Andrew Just on a 5-hole shot getting help from Tyler Griffith and Pat Glofcheskie. The go-ahead point came from Damian Naylor with Owen Houle and Canden Addley playing setup. The Huskies weren’t done and piled on two more in the third when Griffith fed Cam Gingerich who made no mistake from the slot. Tracey got the finisher on a corner pick that was fed to him by Glofcheskie. It was a healthy 5 – 2 win that the Dogs hoped to repeat early Saturday afternoon when they faced the Wasaga Beach Stars. The opposition tested goalie Jamie Rennick early but were unable to find advantage. It was a different story for the Huskies. Eric Noseworthy found the net first getting help from Gingerich, and put his team in front going into the second. Tracey doubled the tally unassisted on a shorthanded drive to the net early in the frame but the Stars responded on the power-play minutes later. They tied it up late in the frame forcing the Dogs to buckle down as the third period began. Some nice d-to-d work from Glofcheskie saw Mack Ryckman teeing one up from the point to take the go-ahead goal early. The Huskies outplayed their opponent for the remainder of the game and took the 3 – 2 win, giving them confidence for their second game of the day against the Lucknow Sepoys. The Pack needed the win to cement a trip to the quarter finals and played a tight, fast game against a determined opponent. Chris Thrush was backstopping the Dogs and kept the game a scoreless draw after one. The opener came from Gingerich as his line mates, Noseworthy and Connor Ross, executed a perfect cycling play. A tripping call against the Huskies gave Lucknow a chance to tie it up when a penalty shot was awarded. Thrush denied them their opportunity and kept his team in the lead. It was rough and fast going into the third period as both teams pulled out the stops. In desperation, the Sepoys pulled their goalie as the clock wound down but Addley dashed their hopes as he potted an empty netter unassisted to seal the 2 – 0 shutout win. With the Huskies securing first place in D-pool, they were slated to play the second place team in C-pool on Sunday morning. This quarter-final contest was a grudge matchup of sorts as it was the Beverly Bandits that the Dogs were facing. This customer was determined and the scoreboard showed it. It was a scoreless draw after one but that would change in the second. The Bandits made the most of an awkward line change by the Huskies and potted one at the midpoint. The Dogs responded a minute later but Tracey’s goal was disallowed leaving the pack trailing going into the third. The Husky defense was hard pressed, killing penalties and Rennick was doing his best to stem the Bandit tide. With time bleeding away, the Bandits doubled up on the power play forcing the Huskies to pull their goalie at the end. Griffith came close on a breakaway but when the buzzer went, it was 2 – 0 for the opposition. The loss meant elimination from the tournament but the Huskies hope to use the experience as they face the Paris Wolfpack on March 26 when they travel back to Paris for game 2 of the A-pool finals.
