Huskies Win Home Opener
Submitted by team reporter Al Ross.

The EJ’s Husky AE squad opened their regular season on the road in Flamborough on September 21 as they faced the Sabres in a tight contest.

Their opponent came out strong and potted 3 quick goals leaving the Dogs reeling in their own end for much of the first frame. Coach Latyn calmed his troops down and the game resumed with the Huskies starting to hit back. Ryan Pierson had a good chance at the 9-minute mark but the team would have to go on the penalty kill before resuming the offence. Sam Cull was working hard between the pipes buying his team time. Another pair of chances from Danny Farrish and Nic Egli came before the buzzer proving that the Huskies were far from done. The first Husky goal of regular season came early when Nick Dumais swatted in a rebound from Josh Potts. The Sabres answered with one of their own but the Dogs bounced back. A scrum ensued in front of the Sabre’s goalie resulting in another Husky point. Matt Morrissey came up golden with the helpers going to Mason Wagner and Ethan Field. The frustrated Sabre squad was parading to the penalty box giving the Huskies opportunities to turn the game around. Farrish made the most of a feed from Field to make it a one goal game on the power-play but time was running out. One last desperate play from Field nearly hit pay dirt but the final buzzer still had the Dogs short by one. It was a great come-back attempt but the Huskies had to accept the 4 – 3 loss. With the season just getting underway, the Huskies hope to improve when they meet the Dundas Blues at home on September 26.
