Tourney in Thedford
The LL3 Huskies dusted off their skates and headed to Thedford for a tournament this past weekend. Everyone had a fantastic weekend, with lots of down time, swimming, great meals, socializing, and oh yeah, some hockey!

The boys played their first game Friday night against the Lambton shores Predators. The boys looked a little sleepy early in the first and Lambton took advantage, getting several nice shots away. Joey answered back with an end to end skate, burying the puck in the net to give the Huskies the lead. Lambton stormed back but Kai stood on his head to keep the game 1-0. Lambton came out on fire in the second and scored early on a loose puck in front of the net. Drew took a penalty for tripping but the Huskies were able to shut down the power play. Lambton took three tripping penalties in a row, giving the boys a two man advantage. Unfortunately, it was hard to tell who was on the power play as Lambton almost scored two skaters down! Lambton scored early in the third and even though the huskies woke up it was too little, too late. The boys knew they didn't play their best and vowed to set things right the next game.
The next game wasn't scheduled until 3:45 on Saturday so most boys took advantage of the down time to swim and socialize. The rest seemed to do the trick as the Huskies came out flying against the TCDMHA Rebels, a select team from Chatsworth. The boys almost gave up their "trademark" first goal but Kai made the first of many amazing stops. It was a chippy game from the get go, with the Rebels playing a tough physical game. Thomas may need to see an Optometrist soon; early in the first he took a great run at the puck in the corner, only he didn't see the player in the way and took a penalty for interference. Tyson also took a penalty a few minutes later but Chazen was able to take advantage of a gap in the D and scored a short handed goal. Kai made a number of amazing saves to keep the Huskies in the lead. It was by far the best first period we had seen from the boys in a long time. It was great end to end action for the next two periods. The Rebels pulled their goalie with two to go and Drew sealed the deal by putting one in the empty net. A huge congratulations to Kai for a superb job between the pipes to earn him his first shutout of the season!
The big win earned the boys third place in their pool and a spot in the semis at 9:00 on Sunday. They came up against some tough opposition in the form of the Caledonia Crush. Caledonia opened the score in just 23 seconds on a giveaway by the Huskies in the neutral zone. Good pressure from Caledonia led to another quick goal. The Huskies definitely looked like they were asleep at the wheel. Maybe it was too much partying in Drew's room? Joey took a penalty for a head shot giving Caledonia a four minute power play. The boys did show some spark later in the game but were unable to pull themselves back into the game.
Great work boys! It was nice to see the boys back in action. Regular season play resumes this Saturday. Hopefully the boys bring their "A" game on saturday as they host the Twin Centre Stars.
