Huskies LL3 Overcome the Generals LL1
The Wilhelm Financial Midget Huskies LL3 were hoping to extend their 3-game winning streak when they travelled to St. George on November 29. The boys were pumped up and knew they had to be, having to contend with a shorter bench with three players missing from the forward ranks.

Things started a little off-balance for the Dogs when the hosts bottled up the play in the defensive zone. Net-minder Liam Saunders had to be sharp as the Generals loosed off a volley of shots but the game remained scoreless at the mid-point of the frame. The Huskies finally found their footing and charged the Generals net. Mike Thrush fed Owen Houle who stampeded up-ice with Mike Glauser going to the net. Houle’s centering pass was on the tape and Glauser promptly opened the scoring in favour of the Huskies. The example was soon followed with some nice cycling plays that saw Andrew Just teeing up at the point. Dylan Hempey, anticipating the shot, executed a perfect redirect to beat the General’s goalie and establish a 2-goal lead. The hosts bounced back late in the frame on a turnover to draw within one and add some urgency to the Husky play. The Husky defense came out strong in the second, blunting the determined Generals as they crossed the blue line. Bailey Zehr was leading by example and his teammates responded in kind. A holding call against the Pack saw the Generals push hard but Saunders spoiled the party for them, allowing his team to rebound when full-strength play resumed. Glauser was once again the goal-scoring instrument, when he swatted in a bouncing misplayed puck, through the 5-hole unassisted. Things were looking good for the Dogs as the third period began with Houle, Glauser and Zehr all getting chances before the balance shifted. An interference call against the Huskies allowed the hosts to rebound on the power-play to draw within one of their guests with plenty of time left on the clock. This game was up for grabs and the Generals became desperate in the face of Husky determination. Saunders was again tested but the contest degenerated into a trade-off in penalties that benefitted neither side. With the clock winding down, the Generals made another push that Saunders turned aside, but this time the Huskies responded. Glauser, racing up the side, loosed a short side bullet that gained the insurance marker, a hat trick on the night and cheers from the Husky bench. It was a sweet 4 – 2 win that the Huskies hope to build on when they meet the Woolwich Wildcats LL3 on December 6.
