Huskies LL3 Register A Tie And A Win
The Wilhelm Financial Midget Huskies LL3 played back-to-back games on January 8 and 9 and notched a tie and a win in the process. The first game was a test of wills between the LL3s and their fraternal Huskies LL2 who are currently the points leader in regular season.

The LL3s are not a team that backs away from a tough contest and had registered the first point early on a tip-in by Nathan Gerber with Cam Gingerich and Connor Ross setting the stage. The LL2s answered with two of their own, to take the lead going into the second. It was a grinding war with both sides taking penalties and getting chances but the LL3s were unable to even things up. Wyatt Whitby was repeatedly tested by the LL2 point shots but spoiled the show for the opposition and bought time for his team to recover. The equalizer came in the third when Gerber fed Dylan Hempey who’s shot on the deck from the blue line made it to the pads of the LL2 goalie. Ross, well positioned in front, stuffed the rubber through the 5-hole to complete the job. In spite of tremendous efforts by both clubs, the score remained a 2 – 2 deadlock at the buzzer. The Huskies, having to split the points with their brethren club, were determined to win in St. Jacobs the following night where they faced the Woolwich Wildcats LL2. It was fast action from the first whistle but the Huskies were giving better than they got. Andrew Just bagged the first goal from the slot on a feed from Canden Addley to open the scoring. Gerber nearly had the second point but it was waved off at the buzzer. The Dogs would have to wait until the second period to double up. The opportunity came late in the frame when Addley and Just were again pressing the attacks home but it was line-mate Michael Thrush that found the net in the melee. Confidence was high going into the final frame with the third goal coming on the power-play at the half. Thrush, working down low, fed the puck to Sean Boake at the point who in turn pulled a D-to-D play. Ross drilled the disk over the goalie’s shoulder on the one-timer to make it a 3-goal contest. Play had barely resumed when the Huskies registered their fourth point. Just got his second on the night on a backhand with Addley and Thrush getting the helpers. The Dogs seemed to be in complete control but back-to-back minors were levied against them giving the Wildcats a 5-on-3 advantage. They pulled out the stops and Liam Saunders was severely tested in net as the game bled away. He stood tall and secured the 4 – 0 shutout win allowing the Huskies to stay in the hunt for a top 4 spot at the end of regular season which is fast approaching.
