Midget LL3s Deadlocked with LL2
The Wilhelm Financial Midget Huskies LL3 entered the post regular season round-robin action with high expectations. Having attained 4th spot, they would face opponents competing for the A-pool prize, all of who were spoiling for a fight. Game one on Valentine’s Day was a close one in which the LL3’s were forced to accept a 2 – 0 loss to a fraternal team, the Midget LL1s. The lads knew they had to dig deeper when they faced another brethren team on February 20th for game 2.

The LL2s were top finishers in regular season but had already dropped 2 round-robin games so the stage was set for some very fast-paced action. As expected, both teams came out flying but it was the LL2 squad that found the net first. In spite of some good chances, the LL3’s found themselves down by two goals going into the second. The pendulum swung back in favour of the LL3s when Cam Gingerich forced the offensive zone and beat the opposition goalie to register the first goal for his team in the post season. It was a rallying point because the LL3’s owned the period from that point on. Gingerich doubled it up a minute later on a turnover to tie the contest and put the opposite bench on notice that this game was up for grabs. The LL3s struck again late in the frame when Andrew Just’s shot found the mark. This third unanswered goal was a rude wake-up call to the LL2 bench and set the stage for a desperate third period. Both teams were moving the puck well but it was the LL3 Husky defense that made the difference. Wyatt Whitby proved his worth in net through two periods and made some key saves, keeping the LL2s at bay. It wasn’t until mid-way through the frame that the LL2s managed to find a chink in the armour and evened the score at 3 - 3. And that’s the way it stood until the buzzer in spite of some ferocious attacks by the LL3 top line. With a tie and loss in the 6-game series, the LL3s will be looking for that first win when they face the LL2s once again on February 27. Expect more fast and furious action.
