Silver Medalists in Garden City
It's September. The days are getting shorter, school routines are back, and the hockey season is in full swing.  This past weekend, the Novice A Huskies kicked-off their season in Niagara at the Annual Garden City Earlybird Tournament and just as the Dropkick Murphys' lyrics prophesized, "the boys were back, and they were looking for glory."

These little Huskies came out flying on Friday.  Shut out wins against Woodstock and Grimsby were highlighted by great goaltending, solid defence, and tenacious back-checking.  The boys followed-up a successful Friday with another great effort on Saturday. A morning win against hosts, Garden City,  set up a winner-to-advance contest against Hespeler in their final round robin game.  The Shamrocks put the Huskies on their heels early and jumped out to a 2-0 lead.  But the Huskies were resilient.  The New Hamburg boys chipped away and managed to tie the score by the end of the second period.  In the third frame, our Huskies turned up the heat a little bit more.  The Huskies pressured and managed to notch two more markers and skate away with a 4-2 victory.  With this win the Huskies earned themselves a berth in Sunday's final against a very strong team from Guelph.

In that final, the Huskies again found themselves down 2-0.  But just like the previous games, the Huskies battled back.  Despite a strong effort to the end, New Hamburg ultimately came up a goal short in a 2-1 loss to the deserving champions from Guelph.  The Huskies left their opening weekend of the season with a few silver medals and many more friendships.

Bravo Zulu boys on a very successful tournament.

If you'd like to catch these boys in action, please join us back in Huskytown at the Wilmot Recreation Complex on Mondays this fall.  The Huskies will play each Monday at 7:00pm starting with their home opener this Monday, September 21.  You're welcome to an entire seat, but you'll only need the edge.
