Guelph Powerplay Tournament Champions
This weekend, the Erb Transport Novice A Huskies travelled to the Royal City to participate in the 44th Annual Guelph Powerplay Tournament.  The New Hamburg boys were looking to improve upon their Silver Medal performance at the Garden City Earlybird back in September.

The Huskies kicked-off their weekend on Friday with shutout victories against Fort Erie and Nobleking.  Both games were terrific team efforts with unselfish play upfront, solid defending, and flawless goaltending.  On Saturday morning, the New Hamburg boys survived a brief power outage and skated past Dorchester to clinch a berth in Sunday action.  Their final round robin win against Glanbrook gave New Hamburg the top seed and set them up for a semi-final date with the hosts, Guelph, on Sunday morning.

The semi-final was a close encounter featuring two teams that are getting to know each other very well.  The teams went back and forth through the first period and a half before the New Hamburg boys would break free and open a two-goal lead.  They ultimately won the game 4-2 and exacted revenge on the same team that bested them in the final of their last tournament.

With that demon exorcised, the Huskies refueled for a Sunday afternoon re-match with the Dragons from Dorchester.  In this game, the Huskies jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back.  They generated chances all game and limited the Dragons' opportunities throughout.

Moments after the final buzzer sounded, the south end of the ice surface was littered with Huskie gloves and sticks as well as one swelling pile of elated little hockey players.  And the scoreboard, at the far end of the rink, read "New Hamburg  6    Dorchester  0".

Congratulations Huskies!  2015 Guelph Powerplay Tournament Champions.
