Silver in Garden City!
A new hockey season is upon us and with that goes the Earlybird Tournament. A return trip to Garden City for the Atom Huskies, and the boys wanted to battle back to that final game.
Friday wins over Orillia 4-2 and Buffalo 3-0 were tough fought battles. A sidetrip to the Jet Boat for some, and the rest of the boys to the waterpark were great rewards and topped off a busy but exciting day.
Saturday morning proved more difficult with a 2-2 tie to Garden City, setting up a 4th game with Niagara Falls which was treated like a 'win and you're in' scenario and we triumphed with a 5-2 victory.
The finals awaited with a rematch against Buffalo. The game was tied at 1 early and sometimes how it goes in this game, tons of pressure at the opposition's end can finish with a weird goal in your own net. Some bad bounces and deflections put us down 3-1 and the comeback wasn't in the tank as some late empty net goals sealed the game for Buffalo. Unfortunately for a group on this team, this is their 3rd Earlybird Finalist medal in a row and they really want that Gold. All should be very proud of the accomplishments this weekend, wear the Silver with pride!
New friendships are born and memories made at tourneys and this one certainly did! The boys get a day of rest and then it's the Season home opener Tuesday at 7:40 in New Hamburg vs. Oakville.
