    Tournament Rules

    1. All O.M.H.A. rules and regulations shall apply. It should be noted that other OHF Minor Member team’s (ALLIANCE, GTHL, NOHA) players will not be required to wear mouth guards in OMHA Tournaments or Exhibition

    2. Approved roster sheets and travel permits must be received no later than Friday November 20th, 2015. Please have your roster with you at all times.

    i. Only teams with approved Hockey Canada (HC) or Hockey USA rosters/cards will be permitted to play. A maximum of nineteen (19) players may participate in any one game. However, a total of twenty-one (21) players may be registered (three (3) of which may be goalies) and substituted from game to game. There shall be a maximum of five (5) team officials registered to any team.

    ii. All teams must present a travel permit with their registration to tournament officials.

    iii. Affiliated players may participate only if listed on an approved Affiliated Players List that is filed with the Tournament Committee prior to the first game being played.

    3. Each team is guaranteed 3 games. There will be eight (8) teams in each age category. Each category will have two (2) Divisions of four (4) teams each. Each team shall play three (3) games within its division for Round Robin. To advance and for the Semi Final Games; the first place team from each division will play the second place team from other aged division. The winner of each semi-final will play a final game for the championship. The tournament committee reserves the right to change format for divisions with less than eight teams registered.

    4. Teams must be dressed and ready to play at least 15 minutes in advance of their scheduled game time in the event that games are ahead of schedule.

    5. If there are conflicting sweater colours, the HOME team will be expected to wear sweaters of contrasting colour. Please bring 2 sets of sweaters. HOME will be designated as white/light colour and AWAY as dark colour. If a reasonable solution cannot be worked out and the failure of the Home team to change sweaters may result in the forfeit of the game

    6. There will be a three minute warm-up before each game, beginning when the first team steps on the ice.

    7. Round robin and semi-final games will be 10-10-10 stop time periods with no time outs. Championship games will be 10-10-15 stop time period. Each team allowed one thirty second time out in the Championship game only.

    8. Mercy rule for all preliminary round-robin and Semi-Final games: if a team is ahead by 5 or more goals in the third period, straight time will begin until the difference is reduced to 3 goals, in which case the clock will revert back to stop time. During mercy time the clock will only be stopped if an on-ice injury should occur. Penalties incurred during running time will be served as 2 minutes. NO Mercy rule in the Championship games.

    9. Preliminary round games will be played on a points-per-game basis. Each team will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss.

    10. Tie-breaking and the determination of the round robin standings will be based in order on;

    1) Total points.

    2) The best ratio of "Goals For/ (Goals For + Goals Against)" in all round robin games.

    3) The team with the fewest goals against

    4) The team with the most goals for

    5) The team with the fewest penalty minutes (includes major penalties)

    6) Most shutouts

    7) Coin toss

    11. Overtime for semi-finals and championship game:

    i) Sudden victory, 3 minutes stop time to be played 4-on-4 with goalie. (Penalties assessed during regulation time carry-over into overtime period).

    ii) If still tied, a second 3 minute stop time period will be played 3-on-3 with goalie. [If a penalty is called during 4-on-4 or 3-on-3, the non-offending team will add a player (5-on-4 or 4-on-3). When the penalty is over the penalized player will not return to the ice until the next whistle, after which play resumes at even strength].

    iii) If still tied, each team will have the first 3 pre-selected players identified on the game sheet prior to the Semi -Final or Final game for a shoot-out. All 6 players will shoot once on a rotation basis on opposite ends of the rink. The visiting team will shoot first. The team scoring the most goals will be declared the winner.

    iv) If still tied after the first 6 shooters, the shootout procedure will continue in "sudden death" mode through the rest of the team roster. The game cannot end until each team has taken the same number of shots. NO shooter may repeat until all players, excluding goalies, have shot once. Visiting team to shoot first.

    12. Home team for Championship final is determined by tie-breaking procedure above.

    General Rules

    13. Teams will play a minimum of three (3) games. Please check your schedule to ensure it is accurate. In the event of a conflict, please notify the Tournament Convener as soon as possible.

    14. Any player/coach receiving a second major penalty MAY be immediately suspended from further play in the tournament.

    15. Due to variations in League rules, any player or coach under suspension entering the tournament is ineligible to participate in the tournament unless first cleared by the Tournament Committee. Either of the above violations will cause the offending team to forfeit the game(s) in which the above were used. Any forfeited game will be shown as a 1-0 score for the non-offending team.

    16. A Tournament Committee will hear protests from rostered team staff only. No protest will be heard regarding a referee's decision. A protest may only be heard if it is brought to the attention of the tournament chairperson or the tournament convenor within thirty (30) minutes of completion of the game in question. A formal written submission can follow the initial notification. A hearing and ruling will be completed prior to the team's next scheduled game. All decisions made by the Tournament Committee are final.

    17. Abusive behaviour by any player, team official or fan will not be tolerated and will result in the guilty person/persons being expelled from the tournament
