Stellar Season Opener!
New Hamburg Pewee LL1 put on a show for their fans today in what was a statement game to open the season. With a number of returning players from last year's team, and with the addition of some great new talent, it almost looked as though the boys had not left the ice since last season!
The boys came out strong with several good early scoring chances ending with a Husky goal 2 minutes into the period. Ayr took a penalty shortly after and the boys capitalized on that to make the score 2-0. Ayr answered right back, however, to bring the game within one. The Huskies demonstrated fantastic team play with great tape to tape passes and good back-checking by the forwards. The defense shut down any chance that Ayr had of making a play. Great puck movement by the Huskies resulted in 2 more goals to put them up 4-1 to end the period.
The next two periods saw that same kind of great teamwork with almost all of the forwards getting either a shot on net or a goal. Several of the defense also came in on the rush and had some great chances. All of the boys played great two way hockey and were backed up by great netminding from both goalies! End result: an 11-1 win. If today's game is any indication of what the season has in store, then the author of this article has high hopes. Way to go Boys!
