First Real Test
The Pewee LL 1 Huskies traveled to Mitchell last night to play an exhibition game against an undefeated Meteor squad. The game saw the boys dig deep, especially considering it followed on the heels of an early morning practice. It was also a good test for our goalies who all too often don't get enough action thanks to great defensive play.

The boys opened up with great pressure on their first shift with a couple of good shots at what proved to be an outstanding Meteor goalie. Mitchell came into our zone hard and applied pressure, making it hard for the Huskie squad to clear their zone. The next few minutes saw good end to end action with both Shaun and the Mitchell goalie keeping their nets clear with some good saves. Mitchell took a penalty but the Huskies were unable to capitalize, ending the period with no score in the game.
Simon opened up the second period with a rocket of a shot that went bar down and in. Mitchell answered right back, managing to squeeze one past Shaun who was screened at the time. The Huskies played hard, shoing off their great passing ability and finally managed to put another shot past the Mitchell goalie, (unfortunately this author was unable to identify the shooter). The Huskies took two penalties to end the period.
The third started with two players still in the box but the New Hamburg squad was able to shut down Mitchell's offence yet again. Brody made a stellar pad save, showing off his impressive flexibility. Both teams had some terrific chances but great goaltending kept it a 2-1 game. Drew was able to catch a break and showed some good patience to beat the goalie with a nice backhand up and over the shoulder. Jonas was able to finally find the back of the net after being unable to capitalize on several earlier chances.
It was nice to see the boys work hard and continue to play heads up hockey. Congratulations to Griffin on being the games MVP. Keep working hard boys and good luck in your tournament this weekend.
