True Grit!
The Peewee LL1 Huskies showed real grit in their last game against the Woolwich Wildcats this past Saturday. The boys were missing three from their lineup and had to dig deep in what turned out to be a tight game. The Huskies faced off against an undefeated Woolwich team that skated well and played stand up defense.

The Wildcats opened the scoring early on in the game with a show that somehow got past an otherwise sharp looking Nelson. The rest of the period saw great end to end action with both teams getting lots of chances. The Huskies were unable to solve a wily Wildcat goalie who made several great glove saves and had to work hard to clear the puck out of their own end as a result of sustained pressure from the opposing team.
The second period saw the boys settle in to their great passing game which eventually paid off with a nice goal by Owen K. The Huskies had to work hard as the coaches juggled lines to work with only two centres and three defense. Play continued with several more excellent scoring opportunities for both teams, with both goalies showing their skill to keep the game tied. Sustained Wildcat pressure eventually lead to a go ahead goal on a great shot.
The third period saw the Huskies dig deep and show great metal toughness. Drew was eventually able to squeeze a shot between the pads of the goalie to tie the game at two. Aidan got the go ahead goal on a great wrist shot that cleanly beat the Wildcat goalie on his blocker side. Brodie made a game saving save as he somehow kept the puck out of the net on a mad scramble that left the parents with rocket high blood pressure. The boys were able to hold off a Woolwich power play and the eventual extra attacker to take down yet another undefeated team. This was yet another complete team effort with every player going all out every shift. Boys, your support for each other and great mental toughness make you a force to be reckoned with on the ice. Keep up the great work!
