Bantam AE Battles Back
The Bantam AE New Hamburg Huskies had a solid weekend of play adding two ties to the column.  After some tough losses midweek for the Huskies - losing to Guelph 4-1 this past Monday, then 5-1 to Halton Hills on Thursday night, the Huskies realized it was time to battle back.  New Hamburg finished the weekend on a positive with two ties - first against a fast-skating Woolwich 3-3 and then against the hard-hitting Guelph team 1-1.  Hard work and determination paid off for the boys.

In the game versus Woolwich, the Huskies were scoreless after the first but then had an early lead in the second with a great rebound goal by Spencer Boshart.  Marcus Scheid and Joseph Heise assisted on the play.  Charlie Slessor cheered from the sidelines with his recent shoulder injury.

The boys added two more goals to the period with Luke Aikman finding the net with an assist from Evan Shannon.  Woolwich was able to score in the meantime, but then Ryan Hillar went for a skate and pounded in another with an assist from Jack Weiler.  Chazen Snyder, Scheid and Shannon put tremendous pressure on with the forecheck, but Woolwich held on.  They got lucky off a face- off draw with a funny puck bounce late in the third, and the game ended in a tie 3-3.  Great hustle and physical play from Wes Howey, Kyle Green and Brandon Jantzi.  The Huskies dominated the play in the first and second periods but ran out of steam in the third.  Coach Arnott is convinced the off-ice training with Ashley at Absolute Fitness will begin to pay off as the team builds their stamina for the whole game.

In the match versus Guelph, the Huskies held the team tight after a motivational speech about Samurai Warriors from Coach Hempey.  Using basics and keeping the game simple helped the team gel and again after two periods, the game was scoreless.  Logan Arnott, Cam Lowry, and Nathan Ward used the body and showed great work ethic.  Matthew Krmpotic was outstanding in net for the Huskies.  Focused face-off draws by Weiler, Aikman and Boshart, and excellent defensive play by Tyler Wagler and Jordan Hempey.  Finally in the third, Joseph Heise fired one at the net and Aikman tipped it in to give the Huskies the go-ahead.  The Gryphons tied it up shortly after with a scramble in front.  Krmpotic made a huge clutch save late in the third, stopping the shot, then sliding across the crease for the rebound as well.

Following the game, the Bantam AE team took part in "Filling the Rink" for fellow New Hamburg Husky Jaxon Cotter.  The team supports Jaxon and his amazing goaltending.  The Huskies thank their dedicated coaching staff and their awesome sponsor EJ's Tavern of Baden for their continued support of NHHA.
