Midget LL2 Huskies Successful On Home Ice
The New Hamburg Huskies Midget LL2s were in need of a win on February 11 at home, having been dealt a disappointing 2 – 1 loss the previous week in Beverly. The Dogs hosted the Woolwich Wildcats LL2 for their 4th round robin play off game and took to the ice with a determined work ethic.

Taking early control of the play allowed Danny O’Connell, Owen Ross and Colin Shannon to all put pucks at the Woolwich net but the game remained scoreless after one. The Wildcats tried to rebound in the second and the game became a fast skating sea-saw battle of wills. Colton Holba made four key saves in the frame as his team continued to skate and shoot in front of him. The opener nearly came as the period bled away when O’Connell found himself on a breakaway to the Wildcat net. He was denied and the third frame began the same as the last, scoreless. With Holba coming up roses early in the third, his team finally got the chance they’d been waiting for. A roughing call against the visitors put the Dogs in the drivers seat early in the period. The cycling plays hit pay dirt when Connor Ross passed the puck back to the blue line where Mason Wagner teed it up. The goalie had no chance when Josh Potts deflected it up over the pads to post the first point. Momentum was favouring the Dogs but a body-checking call meant a retreat to the penalty kill, or so it seemed. A short-handed breakout by Colin Shannon to defense partner Austin Hartman was key to O’Connell’s blistering rush to the net. He made no mistake this time and planted the insurance marker upstairs. The Wildcats made a valiant attempt to come back when the Dogs were once again penalty killing on a tripping call. Holba was too sharp and turned back 3 more credible chances to secure the 2 – 0 shutout win at the end of regulation. With 2 wins and 2 losses the Huskies hope to continue the success story when they face the Beverly Bandits LL2 on February 13 at home.
