Midget LL2s Continue Home Ice Success Story
The New Hamburg Huskies Midget LL2s were in fine form when they hosted the Beverly Bandits on February 13 for game 5 of the round-robin play-offs.  Flush with victory from their win against Woolwich, the Dogs were determined to repeat the performance but they knew this contest would not be easy.

The first period ended as a scoreless draw in spite of some spirited efforts by Matt Sommerville and Colin Shannon. The game tempo ratcheted up in the second and Colton Holba found himself being called on to make a couple of key saves to keep the match deadlocked. With both sides heading to the box for infractions, the Dogs found themselves penalty killing up to the mid-point of the frame. When full strength play returned, they turned on the gas and finally found the net. Danny O’Connell Broke the puck out to Josh Potts who in turn fed Connor Ross who bolted to the net from center ice. Making no mistake, he ripped a shot into the rigging to make it 1 – 0. The Huskies continued the assault but failed to move the needle before the frame ended. Momentum was on the Huskies side when the third period began. Cole Hutchison came close on a setup from Sommerville but it would be up to O’Connell to get the job done. Going to the net, he gathered up his own rebound and solidified the insurance marker, getting help from Sommerville and Owen Ross. The visitors were becoming frustrated and found themselves shorthanded against a surging Husky tide. Going to the net is time-honoured strategy that works and Mike Thrush proved the theory on the third Husky goal. Shannon and Connor Ross, forced the zone, playing keep-away from the Bandit defenders. A cross-crease pass was all Thrush needed and he beat the goalie on the power-play. Both sides were once again heading to the box for minors and the Bandits made the most of a 4 on 4 situation. A quick snap from the face-off circle caught the Husky defense off guard and Beverly served notice on the goal that the game was not over. Holba was instrumental in keeping the attackers at bay registering 4 successive saves before his team returned to the power-play. The Dogs never let up and Beverly was forced to concede the 3 – 1 win to the Pack. The Huskies hope to continue the success story later in the week when they travel to Elmira to challenge the Woolwich Wildcats.
