Midget LL3s Convincing at Home
The New Hamburg Huskies Midget LL3s hosted the Hespeler Shamrocks LL3 on November 19 and were looking to bounce back from a loss the previous week to brethren team, the Huskies Midget LL2. The Dogs were hungry and dominated the offensive zone with the pay-off coming halfway through the opening period.

Brayden Gingerich put a shot over the goalie’s shoulder with the helpers going to Colin Shannon and Luke Aikman. Less than minute later, Ryan Pierson made it a 2-goal game when the Shamrock net-minder deflected his marker into the netting. Alex Wagler and Mike Schmidt collected the assists on the play. The visitors immediately struck back and in quick succession had notched two back-to-back goals to tie the contest. The Pack turned the tables and pounded in two more in the dying minutes to retake the lead. Charlie Slessor made no mistake on a feed from Shannon and beat the goalie upstairs. Pierson bagged his second goal on a cross-crease pass from Alex Wagler to end the period. Play had hardly resumed in the second when Aikman again went high on the goalie getting help from Gavin Banwell. It seemed like a comfortable 3-goal lead but the Shamrocks did not quit. Carter Schwartzentruber made a couple of key saves for his team but the wake-up call came in the last seconds of the frame when the opposition capitalized on a scrum. The Huskies deeper bench may have been the difference in the third as they went on an offensive tear the visitors could not match. Schmidt’s screened point shot widened the lead with the assists going to Slessor and Aikman. The teams traded penalties but neither could capitalize and the next three Husky goals were all at even strength. Dylan Hempey stuck to the formula of going upstairs on the Shamrock goalie with Aikman once again riding shotgun. Hempey assisted on the next wrap around goal from Shannon that left the visitors reeling. The final point came late when Shannon got the puck deep and fed Nathan Gerber at the point. His bullet was deftly tipped in by Alex Wagler to seal the convincing 9 – 3 win. The Dogs hope for similar success when they host Woolwich on November 26.
