Atom AE Huskies did it again.  For the second year in a row the Atom AE team fulfilled 2 Christmas Hampers associated with the Wilmot Family Resource Centre to help families in need at this time of the year.

Last year's coach, Scott Agnello, wanted a way to give back to the community.  He spearheaded a campaign to have all the families agree to "adopt" a family from the Wilmot Family Resource Centre and buy groceries and presents for our "family".  All the families agreed and thought it was a great idea, the result was more lessons then hockey being taught to those young Huskie players.

This year the tradition was continued with a new group of families agreeing and looking forward to reaching out to the Resource Centre and adopting our family.  We were lucky enough to have funds available to adopt 2 families and try to make this season special for both.

The boys gathered at No Frills on Sunday December 10.  Dave Mackay greeted the boys with a smile and enthusiasm I have never seen before.  Dave gathered the boys and explained to them that not all families have the same opportunities that they do, he explained some families need help and it was the boys social responsibility to step up and give back when called upon.  After laying out the ground rules Dave handed the store over to the boys and asked that it be returned in one piece.  Each coach lead their group of 3-4 players through the store as the boys collected the items off of there grocery list.  All the players conducted themselves with respect and dignity, understanding the importance of the task at hand.  Dave rewarded the boys with loot bags before he showed them how to make "Huskie popsicles".  The groceries were combined with the presents that were purchased beforehand and the hampers were complete.

The coaching staff would like to thank all the team parents for funding our life experience, we hope the lessons learned off the ice serve the players well moving forward.

The Atom AE team would like to give a special thank you to Dave and Joni Mackay, owners of No Frills, for allowing us to use their store as a classroom, and Dave for being a wonderful teacher.  THANK YOU!
