Midget LL2 Battle At Home Against LL3
Submitted by Albert Ross

The Midget Huskies LL2 needed a win at home on December 21 after a humbling road loss in Hespeler earlier in the week. With only 4 games left in regular season, the Dogs needed the points if they wanted to remain in A-pool contention. As it happened, their opponent was also desperate for points and the team they faced was the Midget Huskies LL3.

The stage was set for a fast-paced game but it was the white jerseys that found the mark first. Gaining the zone, Ryan Pierson found Teegan Wagler open in the slot and the perfect pass was then perfectly delivered past the goalie to open the scoring. The frame dissolved into see-saw battles in which Carter Schwartzentruber turned aside 5 credible scoring chances. It was more the same in the second with neither side finding advantage. Both teams had short benches and the efforts began to take their toll on the ranks but the contest of wills began to tip in favour of the hosts. Kyle Green capitalized on a defensive positioning error and rushed end-to-end to beat the LL3 net-minder on the deck. Up by 2 points, the LL2’s had no chance to ease up given the redoubled efforts their opponents put forth. They succeeded in potting one of their own at the 5-minute mark but their celebration was short-lived. The LL2s struck back seconds later when Green, once again found the mark from the slot. Pierson and Own Ross collected the helpers on the blitzkrieg play. Not to be left out, Pierson added his own marker with Ross riding shotgun in a play that left their opponents shell-shocked. As if to hammer home the point, Green added a hat trick finale in a last minute scrum that saw Brayden Gingerich and Alex Wagler collect the assists. It was a convincing 5 – 1 win that nobody could have predicted going into the third. The badly needed 2 points will help towards securing an A-pool berth but the Huskies know that the next games will be just as important.
