The Midget Huskies LL2 have secured an A-pool
playoff berth in the Grand River Local League. The Dogs made it official after
their second last regular season game when they travelled to Plattsville on January
7 and notched the win that made the mathematics indisputable.
The hosts made the Pack work hard in the first period to find scoring chances but score they eventually did! Alex Wagler put one through the 5-hole late in the frame getting help from Kyle Green. That was followed by a text-book setup by Brendan Arsenault to Robert Fiedler who bumped the score to 2 – 0 for the visitors on a power play. The Huskies advanced the score again early in the second when Reed Cormier succeeded on an unassisted end-to-end rush. The Rage answered late in the period on a power play of their own, and drew within one early in the third on a defensive zone breakdown. Penalties would be the undoing for the hosts. With a man in the box for body-checking, the Huskies garnered the insurance marker on some nice team play. Owen Ross got the puck deep and found Alex Wagler strategically positioned in the slot. He made no mistake on the play and delivered the 4 – 2 win in the process. With one game left in regular season and a top-6 final assured, the only question remaining is what place the Dogs will finish with. That answer will be given after their game at home on January 11 when they face the Tavistock Titans.
