Hespler Olympics Midget AE Champions
This past weekend the Midget AE Huskies participated in the Hespler Olympics Tournament. An opportunity to come together as a team and take home another championship.

Our first game was against our OMHA playdown opponent the St Thomas Juniour Stars. We got off with a quick start with Kyle sending Bruckman in all alone to put us up 1-0. Half way through the first McClaurin sets up Mirt to make it 2-0. We give one back 18 seconds left in the 2nd, 2-1. Starting off the 3rd McClaurin gets a chance down the left side and fires 5 hole to put us up 3-1. Game one in the bag 3-1 win for the Huskies.
Game 2, the Halton Hills Thunder. We aren't able to get ourselves organized this game, A lot of back and forth but we aren't able to muster up many chances. Halton out shoots us severely but our goaltending holds up and we are able to walk away with a 0-0 tie.
Game 3 We're up against the Pelham Panthers to wrap up the round robin. First period whips by with out any results. Halfway through the 2nd we break the scoreless tie. McClaurin to Mirt to Wenn for the finish high on the left side from the high slot. 1-0 Huskies. Shortly after we take two penalties on the same whistle. The Panthers tie up the game on the 5-3 and it's 1-1. On the the next shift the Panthers notch another to go up 2-1. Next shift Pelham gets a break away and finish top corner to go up 3-1. 3 goals in a minute really set us back. The 3rd period starts off Pelham notching a 4th goal. The boys don't give up, and Eddy rips one from their blue line to make it 4-2. Unfortunately that was all we had and that was the final. After the round Robin we have 1 win, 1 tie, and a loss which nets us 3rd over all.
Game 4 Our Semi Final is a rematch with the Pelham Panthers. With 1 1/2 minutes left in the first Pelham breaks the goose egg going up 1-0. Early in the 2nd Eddy finds Mirt hiding at the Pelham blue line with a 100 foot pass. Mirt goes in hard to the net and turns away and finds Bruckman trailing and he finishes low far side and we're tied 1-1.The next shift we keep the pressure on Scheid gets the puck to Wagner who gets away a shot and Boshart finishes to put us up 2-1. Late in the 3rd we're in Pelham's end and Sommerville get's away a shot but the goalie can't grab the rebound. Mirt gets a couple whacks at it and puts us up 3-1. Off to the third. 10 minutes left in the 3rd and McClaurin cycles down low to Mirt who gives it back to McClaurin as he charges the net and it's 5 hole again, 4-1. That's a wrap we're off to the finals.
Game 5 Hespler Olympic Midget AE Final, Halton Hills Thunder and the New Hamburg Huskies. Halton was full of energy in game one and their biggest asset looked to be that they never took a shift off. 7 minutes in we control the puck in Haltons end. The pucks gets tipped around in the slot and McClaurin tips it to Wenn who pokes it loose to Mirt. Mirt at the top of the circle just puts a puck on net on the ice through the 5 hole for a 1-0 lead. 3 minutes left in the first we're down in their end again on the power play. McClaurin carries the puck from the corner up along the hash marks and cuts in to the middle and puts a shot low on the right side. Mirt battling in front of the net tips the puck over the the goalies glove for a 2-0 lead. Late in the first we lose control of the puck deep in our end. both teams have several chances to get control of the puck and finally Halton has an open player in front that picks up the puck and goes bar down to bring the Thunder within 1. 2-1 Huskies after 1. Halfway through the 2nd, shorthanded, we lose the puck in our end and Halton jumps on the opportunity and gets a shot off to tie the game up at 2's. Half way through the 3rd there is a battle in the corner to the left of the Halton goalie. The puck squirts loose to Mirt who turns around and he is all alone as he walks to the net. He cuts accross the front of the net and pulls the puck back between his legs as the goalie trys to poke check and flips the puck over the goalie for a 3-2 lead. Hat trick for Mirt. The team set up a solid 1-2-2 defense for the final half of the period and minimized any chances as they ran out the clock to be the Hespler Olympics Midget AE Champs. Congrats on a great effort to all. Way to come together to get the job done when it counted.

Have a great New Year
