Jr Firebirds Give Back
Congrats to the Jr. Firebirds. These hockey players are being challenged to show good sportsmanship off the ice as well as on. They aim to demonstrate the values learned through hockey, such as camaraderie, respect and a strong work ethic, through giving back and helping others off the ice.
It was a fun night that included some education on our community. We learned that the family resource centre provides a host of services to families and non-families in need: from the very small, youth, adults and elderly. With respect to the foodbank, they serve Wilmot Township and Lower Wellesley. We were busy stocking shelves for people that need their services. They said they offer 60 to 70 hampers to the community. A hamper is a 3 day food supply for a family. What was great to learn is contributions touch many people we would not know are in need of being fed – families without work, injured individuals, disabled, refugees, elderly and single parents. Congrats to the team on giving back to their community. They did a great job!
