Grand Champions!!!
The New Hamburg Huskies Novice LL 1 became the Grand River Local League Champions Tuesday Night when they defeated Huskies LL2 by the score of 4-0. The victory marked the end of the championship series versus Huskies LL2. The first game of the championship series ended in a draw when LL2 fought back in the 3rd period to tie the game after a 3-goal deficit. Game 2 was a balanced attack of offence, defence, and goaltending by LL1 which saw them win 3-0. Players on LL1 played hard during the series-clinching game 3 and second consecutive shutout which included plenty of celebrating, cup hoisting, and pictures.
The win is the second Novice Championship for 4 players that were together during the previous season when they competed in the New Hamburg Novice House League. Coach Jon says that those four boys will likely be the last repeat Novice Champions that we will ever see now that Novice and Tyke hockey has been restructured by OMHA.
It has been a successful season of league play for Huskies LL1 after finishing first overall and going undefeated in the regular season standings. Huskies LL1 clinched a birth in the final series after going 5-2-1 in their "A" playoff round robin. The Team will finish off the season on Saturday April 6 when they compete in the New Hamburg Optimist Novice Tournament on home ice.
