Huskies Finalists at Kitchener Early Bird
The Minor Atom A team got off to a solid early start last weekend in the Kitchener Early Bird tournament where they were expecting to get some stiff competition in the A/AA division.
The boys started the tournament and season off with a convincing 8-2 win over the Guelph Gryphons on Friday afternoon. However early Saturday morning they met up with a very prepared and polished Burlington Eagles Gold AA team. The boys played well but were eventually overcome 5-0. In their 3rd game they faced the Hamilton Huskies A/AA team. The local Huskies came out with more bite and charged out to a huge 9-1 lead before taking their foot off the gas pedal and surrendering 4 quick Hamilton goals. Weathering the late storm NH was able to regain composure and finish it off with a 10-5 win. That win set up a finals rematch with Burlington, which saw the Huskies come out strong and battling hard. However a few bad bounces and Burlington pounced and jumped out to a 2-0 lead which took some wind out the Huskies sails. There was no quit in the boys as they made Burlington work for a hard-fought 6-0 Championship win. Overall it was a great start for the Huskies!
